MK Restaurant, Ubon Ratchathani Thailand.

I apologise for the following pictures. They were taken on my iPhone and the quality is crap, much like the phone.
Nong Ja at MK
The other night we were not sure what to do for dinner, when Noot suggested MK Restaurant. I don’t mind going here once in a blue moon, so we headed off on or about 400mtr journey to Big C, where MK is situated.
Nong Ja at MK
Ja of course was being herself, if I was going to take pictures of her, she was going to give me an interesting subject.
Nong Ja at MK
As you can see, all Thai blood in her with her posing.
MK Vegetables
Mk describes itself as a mix of Thai and Chinese cuisine. A Thai suki hotpot that you will see in a minute if you have never been to one. Above is the standard assortment of vegetables.
MK Duck
MK duck is popular and we usually order every time we go there. This night it was okay, not as good as I remembered it.
MK Stock
The MK hotpot and the stock inside starting to boil.
Glass Noodles
You can order many extra things for your hotpot and this is what Noot had ordered. Glass noodles.
MK Tofu
I think this is a deep fried tofu, it is alright but I like soft tofu much better.
MK processed Meat Balls
Processed meat balls.
MK Seafood Rolls
Seafood sticks or rolls.
MK Processed Meat
More processed meat but in triangles.
MK Squid
Noot’s favourite seafood by far is squid. I have never had her try cuttlefish which I say is far better than squid. And the first time she ever tried octopus she was amazed at how good it was.
MK Hong Kong Braised Beef
I was flicking through the menu and come across some braised beef. This was Hong Kong Braised Beef and was bloody delicious.
MK Hotpot
When the stock boils you simply place in the meat and hardier vegetables.
MK Hotpot
Put the lid back on and bring back to boil.
MK Hotpot
Let boil for a few minutes and then add the rest of the vegetables.
MK Hotpot
Close the lid again and bring to boil again and then you are right to eat. There are dipping sauces to add and all in all not a bad meal.

It is very popular with Thais, most nights the MK Restaurant here at Big C is full with families, I don’t often see younger groups of kids they stick to the cheaper BBQ’s scattered about the place.

So if you have never tried MK, give it a go as it might be your cup of tea.

Brunty.

Man, what is the allure of that place to Thais? It's pretty bland compared to Korean BBQ places... I guess because they have air conditioning - it makes it the ultimate place for some Thais to go.

I like it - but, I'd much rather spend 99 baht at the Korean BBQ.

Brunty, you have anyone that collects snakes up your way? Maybe I could trade some with them? Let me know if you think of any one. Cheers man...

MK is one of my favourites and the MK duck is top of the list. The nearest outlet to where we live is the tesco lotus in Chainat. I've been there lots of times and it never disappoints.

MK here in Chiang Mai is one of my favourite places to eat...especially if I happen to be dining when the staff simultaneously burst into a song and dance routine!

Hey Vern, I like you think it is way overpriced as well, like you the BBQ places are just as good for me. MK is a once every now and then thing.

People say Thais are poor, well there are also plenty that aren't as every night Mk and other restaurants packed most nights.

I know of a kid who used to, an ex student now at university and will contact him via Facebook and find out if he knows of anyone.

Tom, I too like the duck but this time wasn't that amazing but the braised beef was.

Hey Snap, we have such a huge choice of places to eat that are excellent quality and half the price of MK, so we don't get there that often but it is good for a change.

The song and dance routine is a classic, isn't it?
