Spago Authentic Italian Pizza and Pasta, Ubon Ratchathani Thailand.

Spago Italian Pizza & Pasta Ubon Ratchathani
I have been saying that I was going to make it to this restaurant for a while, and I finally did. Spago is an authentic Italian pizza and pasta restaurant. The owner is an expat named Franco, I meet him a little while ago and was told about his Italian restaurant he was opening.

Franco was not in a rush to get the shop opened, he wanted the shop to be completely finished and the quality top notch, and this is exactly what he has done.

The sign, stating ‘A Taste of Italy in Ubon’ (Ratchathani), I was looking forward to tasting one of the pizzas.

When you walk into Spago, you are greeted by the sight of the wood-fired pizza oven.

This would have to be a novelty for the locals, I don’t know of any other place in Ubon where they could see a pizza oven like this and also the whole process of the pizza, from the beginning to the end.

And Franko also makes real Bruschetta, it looked so good.

And this is the end product; it looks great, doesn’t it? I can tell you that it tasted probably even better than it looked. Franko uses the best quality products, the olive oil, garlic and tomato really complemented the Bruschetta.

All the ingredients were painstakingly searched for by Franko, trips to Bangkok to find what you now see.

Salame (must be how you really spell it) and Mozzarella cheese.

I am pretty sure this is prosciutto, looks good.

All the ingredients ready to go for the pizzas.

As I said before, the novelty of Spago is the customer being able to watch the whole pizza process. From the bases being made to the toppings applied.

Franko and his wife are doing a great job. This is the master at work.

And the masterpiece is finished. I ordered an Italian sausage, that could have had spinach or broccoli. The sausage meat is actually cut out of real Italian sausages to be put onto the pizza.

And then you can watch the pizza cooking away inside the wood-fired oven.

Now Franko is multi talented, he also makes some pâtés. I haven’t tried them yet, but others who have do rave about them.

Only the best as I said, I will be back as I have to sample so many more things that Franko has to offer

These are Thai pears in red wine, as I said I will be back to try.

And there are also homemade desserts to tempt you.

Spago stocks a very good range of wine; this is just a few of the bottles on display.

The finished product, it smelt bloody good I tell you.

I will be back as there is a range of pasta and pizzas to be tried. The pizza was very good, delicious. I am going to have the Spago pizza next time from recommendation. I also want to try the lasagna and also many of the pasta dishes from the menu.

If you want to have authentic Italian then you have to try Spago, you will not be disappointed. And it is not expensive, I had the pizza and traditional Italian garlic bread and it only cost 324 Baht.

Spago is on Chaengsanit Road

To get there, turn at Ubon Rajabhat Univesity and head to Ying Chareon Park (S.K) to the large clock round about. Head along highway 23. It is easy to find as when you see the large Homemart building, Spago is directly opposite it.

This comment is from a supposed Mike Turner.

this will be a flop, i give it 10 months max. there is no market for thin crust pizza in ubon, remember nando's (Yes, I do)

and at 300 baht its more expensive than the real thing *it didnt cost brunt this he couldnt afford it, he blagged it for an appearance on his crappy blog*

Okay Mike, my blog might be crappy, so don’t read it you cretin. Sadly I did pay for the pizza but I shared a beer with Franko that he paid for. And it is true I couldn’t afford the pizza I had to beg for money at Tesco for a few hours to raise the funds.

Now Mike, I do think you are a tosser, as you have a big mouth and are obviously gutless as you have never left a link where I can read something you have written, or a contact as I would love to correspond with you.

I have met plenty of lowlife weak pricks and dealt with them, that are all talk but when it comes to it are piss and wind, like you.

Mike if you are in the local area, stop wearing a dress and we can meet and discuss our difference of opinions.

I have no qualms of people offering their opinions, I have no qualms of people criticizing my blogs, this is all part and parcel of writing a blog.

In 10 months we will see if Spago is still in business, maybe you will be right but from what I have seen and heard, Spago is proving to be popular.

So anyway, Mike. If you are brave enough, leave me a contact email (I won’t publish) and we can chat. I am sure, 100% sure that you being inflicted with such a yellow streak, will just shoot your piss poor mouth off again and let the shit flow out of it, like you have before.

So Mike you useless cunt, I am calling you out, don’t disappoint me.

I don't who Mike Turner is either except I have a Dr Michael Turner visiting me from Scotland next month to talk about grass seed crops with me.

Franco is on a gold mine. He is doing very well. All Thais (98% of his customers are Thai) love the thin crust pizza. They love his food and wine. Some tables of 4-5 people spend 5000 baht each time they come and they come 2-3 times a week!

Look at Rissotto. It opened in 1992under a different name (Italian pizza) and it is still going strong after 17 years. They serve fairly thin crusty pizza, plus other food.

Not everyone eats pizza. When I go by myself I have the salad and a wine or two.

Franco is in for the long haul. He doesn't have to pay rent (own property). He has excellent staff.

I have here 15 years and I don't ever recall a pizza place called nandos. It must have been a real flop or in some back street.

Mr Mike Turner is defintely wrong.

Michael, the guy is from Britain I have his IP address and much more. He at times drops by and leaves some off the cuff comments, I more than welcome each and every person's view on my blogs.

He is entitled to his opinions but just tries to push buttons and I like to push his at times by writing something back to him.

Spago I too believe will do very well, and Thais are his main clientel as you said. I don't think Franko will have any problems of people tiring as the food is quality.
