Watching Ashes Cricket Live Online, Thailand.

Here in Thailand I have cable TV provided by RTV. I get 60 plus channels at the very cheap price of 350 Thai Baht. That is for three outlets in the house. A TV for me, Miss Noot and Miss Ben if need be.

I refuse to pay the 2,000 Baht price for True Move or UBC, for the amount of TV I watch it wouldn’t justify the outlay, plus they don’t show AFL or Aussies Rules football or NRL or National Rugby League. It doesn’t show Australian dedicated news.

My cable provider has Australian Network, BBC News, and Aljazeera just to name a few channels.

The sports channels are provided through Super Sports a South African provider that has an excellent coverage of all sports. I get to watch live Premier League Football in the comfort of my home, as well as Rugby Union and what is really important at the moment, The Ashes Cricket between Australia and England.

If you are from a cricketing nation you know the importance of the Ashes, I have been happily watching the first 4 test matches on Super Sports on S2 that was until today.

Last night was the first day of the 4th test match and Australia had a great day, I was really looking forward to the 2nd days play, the problem is when I arrived home and put on S2 it was no longer S2 but now S3 that is dedicated to football or known also as soccer. I said WTF and was straight onto my RTV office.

The girl spoke Basic English, as expected. This is Isaan, not Bangkok and the clientele are mostly Thai. After a little bit of time and the explanation of ‘these channels show live sport’ was not what I wanted to hear.

Trying to explain ‘live cricket’ on channel S2 and that now it has changed is not something easily accomplished over the phone. So I let go and thanked her for her time, but tomorrow morning there will be a farang in their office at 9.30am when the office doors open and will not be leaving until things are sorted out.

Thankfully we live in modern times and you can virtually watch anything live on the internet. I do this a lot for the English Premier League Football, many times if games I am not interested in are being shown on TV I will watch the games I want to watch online.

This is what I am doing with the cricket. It isn’t anywhere near as good as watching it on the TV, as the picture isn’t quite as good but at least you get to see it. I am watching it here at cricket-and-wrestling.blogspot.com. The time is 22.54 and the score is England 24/0 in their second innings. You can also watch a lot more sports from live.vss.net, I use this site for many things and apart from all the flashing ads I have never had any problems.
Ricky Pointing
Here we have one of the best cricketers to play the game, many people don’t like him but his record speaks for itself. Ricky Pointing is one of the best batsmen to stand at the crease and he has captained through lean times, as in players that is. Australia has been blessed in cricketing terms, with so many talented players. Pointing hasn’t had the depth of players to choose from as other captains but still boasts a successful record.
Ben Hilfenhaus

Ben Hilfenhaus
Listening to cricket is okay but watching it is the best. Watching a fast bowler like Ben Hilfenhaus steam in and send down a 140klm plus thunderbolt can’t be described like seeing it.
Thai Beer Archa
I am also not a big drinker, a few times a year for me. I do enjoy a beer watching cricket, this is an Aussie pastime. Tonight bought 2 bottles of Thai Beer, Archa. Archa isn’t very popular. It is the cheapest beer on the market but I also think it is the best. It is better than Thai beer Leo and beer Singha. Heineken beer to me is shi$, I don’t like it in the least. Beer Laos would be my first choice but is hard to find.

Archa has an Aussie Gold Medal Award from 2007 at the International Beer Awards. Not a bad recommendation for me. I think it is very similar to a very good beer back home VB or Victoria Bitter.

Anyway, must go as the cricket is beckoning, I have been writing this on my laptop and trying to watch the cricket at the same time. It is coming to the end of the days play and I want to enjoy the last hour of play and also the remaining ice cold beer.

Dear Brunty,

7 years ago I was interviewed by RTV. My late wife said that we had better connect up so she could watch live from home. No such luck. The RTV cable was about 400 m down Soi 9 (SAAP SOI 9) from my house. They would reach my house later in the years Perhaps?

Last week I went in again (7 years later) and the cable still hasn't moved any further down the soi. So no RTV cable at my house. I said I would contact them again in 7 years time.

Being a rugby fan I thought I would be able to watch live Tri-nations rugby on RTV. but this is hit and miss as most times the live match gets scrambled just as the kickoff occurs.

Then I am told the cable operator in RTV often puts more football on the sports channels because he likes it. This may be what happen with the cricket the other night. How many Thais like cricket?

I have now given up ever getting cable in my soi or watching live rugby from the Tri-nations. Maybe if I got one of those big dishes I would be okay. But I would still have to pay a fee in Australia and get a smart card so the rugby would not be scrambled.

Michael, I too didn't have the cable to my house but they ran it about 100 metres to the outside and then the 30 metres to the house.

I get the rugby on supersports I watched the Springboks beat teh Aussies last night.

John, sorry but I always publish comments, even if negative as all people have different views. The only ones I reject are the real idiots but there aren't too many of them out there.

Thanks for commenting

Hi Michael, you can watch the rugby, I get it in my house (not scrambled) from a company called top up tv. Google 'MeMock top up TV' for more details. It cost 3,600 baht per year but I think they have a special on at the moment with tesco.

I measured the distance for the cable to be connected to my house-600 metres. Too far for RTV they say. Still it puzzles me why they don't extend the cable to more areas. The other cable company, Sophon Cable, runs pass my house, but they don't have those sports channels showing rugby. Perhaps there is a gentleman's agreement not to encroach on one anothers territory. Who knows? TIT.

Where's the link to watching live cricket on your link:

http://cricket-and-wrestling.blogspot.com/

I'm just seeing alot of G Adsense spam -

Is there a link to watch the ashes free online or are you just looking for affiliate returns!

CCPT, hope you don't mind the abbreviation. I am not after any affiliates. The cricket isn't on now so I am sure the streaming is well and truly dead now.

I see you have a lot of blogs, interesting topics indeed. Most only have one or two posts.

Is it for Adsense having so many blogs or am I missing something and should be blogging a different way :)
