Rural Thai School Needs Your Help, Isaan Thailand.

Thai Rural School Kids
Ban Mahachai school Surin province is a small school of 95 students. The school is close to the Cambodian border and is a poor area. The school is run down and they are looking for help.

I blogged about helping the kids out a little while back with a donation for school lunches, one very generous reader who wished to remain anonymous and still will, donated 200 pounds, I still cannot thank him enough. This meant the students (pictures here from Andrew Hick’s website) could eat a decent school lunch for a term instead of just a little boiled rice.
Chicken Shed
The school again just received a 50,000 Baht donation and they have started a really smart programme. With the money they have built a shed that is housing chickens. With these chickens of course come eggs. With eggs comes sales and this means one day well down the track they may be able to support themselves.
Bill For Project
Chickens
But now they are slowly making money, and they have a debt to pay off as well. After building the shed, they bought 3 months feed, cages and 80 chickens. This came to another 45,000 Baht. Read more here.

A generous person has already donated 20,000 Baht toward reducing the loan, but more is needed.

The shed can hold another 80 chickens and this would obviously increase their income but also their costs. The big thing now is getting the programme up and running at its full production potential and giving them every chance to make some money for the school. Don’t be mistaken, it will not make the school rich but I am sure it will help in daily needs.

Not only will this be a small source of income it is also going be a valuable learning experience for the students. They are keeping records of everything, from the eggs laid and broken to obviously the sales.

I am really impressed by the project and the wisdom of it. The fact it has the potential to help the school out in the longer term and help with the money problems that the Thai government fall short with.

If you can donate in anyway, please do. You can do so through Mr. Andrew Hicks, of the Thai Girl fame, and also his blog of the same name. You can do so through Paypal with reference to Andrew Hicks, at arhicks56@hotmail.com. Otherwise email him at the same address and other ways of donating can be arranged, like a bank transfer.

If you would like to donate through my site, please do so as well. I will publish your name, if you like to thank you so others can see your generosity. You can do the same and donate through my Paypal account with reference to jbruntassumption@hotmail.com.

Please tell me you are donating as this account has a fair amount of transactions. If an anonymous amount of money shows up I will not know what it is for.

So again thanks for reading and if you can help please let me know so I can thank you publicly.

Thanks a million, Brunty.

Yes, it's an amazing project and I really take my hat off to the teachers. It's an awful lot of work for them, including during the school holidays, all down to their dedication to the school and the children.

It's a poor school but such a wonderful place.

Some small donations are coming in now but we still have a long way to go.

Thanks to everyone.

Good on you for publishing this one, Brunty. I'll contact you to make a donation when I get back to Phana. Maybe it will be a bit helpful for donations to be spread through the year. Expect to hear from me in Oct/Nov.

Andrew no worries. I am happy to try and help in any way. I hope that a few donations roll in for the project.

The teachers do have a big job as the chickens don't know when it is holidays, weekends and so forth.

Lawrence, thanks for dropping by. No worries my friend I am sure they do not mind when the donation happens. Thanks in advance for being so generous and helping out.

Look forward to hearing from you in Oct/Nov. Phana looks like a very peaceful place and it is great to see the volunteers you have there helping out.
