Thai Temple Show, Isaan Thailand.

I reported on the cremation of the former abbot of Nong Bua Temple, Phra Khru Khitiwan Nobon. At the temple it was a real family fair going on. There were little food venders set-up and odds and ends to buy. To see any of the pictures in large sizes just click on one and go to my Flickr page.
Thai sausages
I am a real fan of these; they are like a little sausage, in a ball. It comes with a really nice sauce and some salad. They smell great cooking too.
Thai locals
Some local guys wanted me to take their picture, so I did. The guy in the white was well on his way.
Fairy floss
The fairy floss man was busy.
Stage
The stage was set up and people waiting for the show to start.
Thai stage show
The stage in close up. The cremation had already begun and now it was time for the entertainment.
Thai dancers
The dancers hit the stage.
Paying respect to the King and Queen
They paid respect to pictures of the King and Queen of Thailand.
Isaan Style Life
The first comedy sketch was a ripper. Usually at big funerals they will have shows like this. Thais call them “Likay” and this was classic Isaan style. To be derogative to the Country folk in Thailand people from the city say “Barn Nawk” which is like calling them hillbillies. This was classic Barn Nawk.

A man came out dressed as a woman, some others joined her and then they threshed some rice.
Thai Buffalo
Then out came a man riding a buffalo, this brought a good laugh.
Thai Drunk
Then the drunk appeared. Every Thai village has their resident drunk.
Thai Drunk 2
When he started to walk off you could see his ass as his pants were worn out. This had people in raptures, especially when he pulled out a life like penis and started pissing.
Buffalo sex
He then tried to screw the buffalo, this of course went down really well and the crowd was in hysterics.
Thai Buffalo Charge
The buffalo was angry at being raped by the drunk and turned and charged him. He has the fake penis in his hand in this picture but I am sorry as it isn’t very clear.
Thai Dancers
The dancers then reappeared.

I didn’t stay for too long as it was getting late. The show didn’t start until about 10.30pm and it was going until 6am, yes that was 6am. And the next night they had another stage show. It was starting at 10pm and also going until 6am. They party hard here in Isaan.

I am happy to report that there wasn’t any alcohol on sale in the temple. I have been to many temple shows and was always baffled by the sale of alcohol in a holy place. Sadly outside the temple gates sitting in large groups were young guys and a few girls drinking beer and whiskey before obviously going in to watch the show.

It is a shame that these fools cannot spend one night not drinking alcohol and acting like tossers. I hope there weren’t any problems and that all the people enjoyed the dancing and comedy shows.

That was another part of the cremation of Phra Khru Khitiwan Nobon.
