I blogged about the local Temple near my house called Nong Bua Temple. It was undergoing some restoration work and had bamboo scaffolding all around it. The temple was in urgent need of some tender love and care if you look in the older picture.

The temple now looks like new, the temple is an imitation of India’s Buddha Khaya Spires. It is apparently the only temple this shape in Thailand.

The monks that surround the lower part of the temple have been given a new lease of life.

These mythical looking creatures look as though they are holding up the temple.

Nagas serpents.

On the lower part of the walls three are pictures that tell a story as such from when Buddha was born, he achieved enlightenment, gave his first sermon and when he passed away. Before it was hard to make out the characters in the pictures but now the new paint has been applied you can see things very clearly.

I really like this, it is a picture of a boat sinking, a large crocodile in the water and also faces in the rough water, also what seems to be Buddha being carried away into the sky by something.

I also liked this; it looks like Buddha giving a sermon.

This is a legendary Nagas. They are meant to be Buddha’s protectors when he was meditating.

In this frame there is just so much happening. I am going to ask what it represents; all the characters make it look like an interesting story. There are a lot more pictures of each panel from the temple on my Flickr photo account.

I said they were building what looked like a chedi or an ubosot. It is a chedi that was being built.

This is now finished; the chedi is going to be the resting place for the ashes of the former abbot of the temple who passed away a little while ago. He has been lying in state I suppose you would call it since his death.

The chedi is really beautiful. The workmanship was excellent from what I could see.

The monk’s funeral rites are being conducted from the 5th to the 10th of this month. The cremation is taking place on the 8th.

Now please forgive me if I get his name wrong, this is from the Thai symbols. Phra Khru Khitiwan Nobon.
We may go to one of the days funeral rites, but the cremation day will be too busy. There will be a huge crowd.
