The other weekend Ben and some of her school friends went away for the weekend. They were going for an overnight trip to a place on the Mekong River. Here they are in the back of a pick-up truck. I was pissed as I thought they were going by bus. I forbid Ben travelling like this and she wouldn’t have gone had I known.

The Mekong River is a shadow of its self. The water level has really fallen over the last few months and with summer on the horizon the water level is only going to fall further. There have been places declared drought disaster areas as it is so dry there.

Here is Miss Ben and a friend.

The talented Miss Ben.

This was lunch being prepared, fresh fish.

Now, whenever a Thai girl gets a camera you end up with pictures like this. Self taken and close up.

This girl took a heap of pictures virtually all the same.

Here the gang was up early and ready for an exciting day.

Ben and friends on the bank of the river.

Ben and a friend sucking his thumb. Must be a new cool look.

It was warm so a dip in the murky water.

Ben rock hopping with friend.

Ben and friends wet.

The gang at a pottery drying room, I think it is. I don’t believe it is a kiln.

The guys checking out a clay mixer.

Here they are modeling some pots.

Some more pots.

Here is where they turn the clay into pots.

Now this kiln looks huge and is shaped what looks to me like a dugong. You must enter from the other end to place the pots inside.

There were plenty of pots in stock but apparently there wasn’t anyone about.
That was miss Ben’s trip into the countryside of Isaan.

Thai Nai is on the far left of the map and where this pottery is made.

MJ, she said it was good fun but she didn't throw any pottery. I have done this. At school in art class. I made some really ugly pots and plates and they got smashed or used as target pratice.
Tom the place is called Tha Hai and is in not far from Ubon Ratchathani in a area called Khuang Nai. I have put the map on the blog if you would like to see where.
Your Thai friends sure look a fun bunch to hang out with! Sorry to hear about the drought going on there, though. If only they could transport some of Southern Thailand's rain to the Northeast, ay? :o)
Brunty,
Can you please send me an email on how you embed the google map onto your blog?
thanks heaps!
If many countries could divert water from places that are flooding to where there are droughts, there would be so many problems solved.
Look at Australia, Victoria just had the worst bushfires ever; over 200 hundred people have lost their lives. In far north Queensland there is major flooding. Other places dams are full where other places they are dry.
Maybe we could invent a cheap way of transporting water and make millions
Franky, I will email you mate. It is really easy to do.
