Thai school Christmas fun, Isaan Thailand.

I have been a little busy and hadn’t had time to blog on our Christmas party for the kids. Every year just before Christmas day our school transforms into a mini carnival.
Brother Sakda
Here our Brother is completing the opening ceremony.
Opening ceremony
The school band played our school song and then it was fun time.
These kids are signing up for the Popularity Contests.
Superman and Batman
Here are Superman and Batman waiting to take to the stage in the popularity competition.
Mrs. Claus
And even Mrs. Claus paid us a visit.
Thai singer
Before the competition could start there was some singing to be done. This girl had a very lovely voice.
Thai dancers
These girls were the supporting act to the singers.
Kindergarten dancer
Then our kindergarten students did a dancing show. Here a small student is grooving away.
Kindergarten dancers
Two small kindergarten students are showing some attitude.
Flowers
So it was time for the little students to strut their stuff. Here is how it works. You buy flowers for the person who you like. The large flowers are 50 Baht each and the small flowers are 10 Baht each. Most are in 100 Baht bunches. This year we fell well short on last year’s total. How much do you think was raised?
Year 1 competitors
These are mostly year 1 students showing off their outfits.
Year 1 girls
These are two year 1 girls looking lovely.
Year 3 boy and flowers
This is a year 3 boy with a lot of flowers.
A bumble bee
This is a kindergarten student in a bumble bee outfit.
Dashing couple
More kindergarten students, the boy looks very suave and the girl beautiful.
really beautiful and handsome
Here are two more kindergarten students. The little boy looked very cool and hip. And the girl with her tiara and wand looked like a princess.

This is just a small part of the day. The older kids also dressed up and there were also shows on the stage. I will try and blog on this over the next few days, if time permits.

you know Brunty, whenever i read an article like this on your blog, my mouth drops open. i am always amazed at the time and effort the Thai people put into everything, except academics. we've talked about this before but my goodness - all those costumes and makeup and routines don't happen by chance. people must spend nearly all their time preparing for these extra-curricular activities! it seems that as soon as one is over, another one is looming on the calendar and needs to be prepared for. i've never seen anything like it! i see more culture on your blog in one month than i see on most blogs in a year!

MJ. I too used to be amazed but now I hardly blink at teh most outrageous outfits.

The time spent can be a lot, I always refuse students who try and get out of class to rehearse for things like this. I don't care if the think I am a party pooper.

Our biggest night of the year is coming up at the end of this month. It is a huge show. Every class puts on a show on a massive stage, absolutely massive stage.

Last year it started at around 7pm and I left at midnight and there were still acts taking place.

You will really see some outfits from this night. I will take hundreds and hundreds of photos on this night.

Is it culture I blog about!! I thought it was just my boring everyday life in the eyes of a farang :)

Thanks for commenting again MJ.

I used to work there 4 years ago. When I saw the pictures on your blog, they reminded me about my good old days in ACU.

I'm an English teacher in a public school, and I will go back to Ubon to work after I'm done with the visiting teacher program in the US. I would suggest that you should go to visit some other schools in Ubon. If you won't mind visiting my school, you are more than welcome.

Have you ever go to Hua Hin? If yes, may I have a chance to read your article about it?
