A Bus Trip, Thai Dancing Girl and School Fun, Thailand.

Today I didn’t get to the park in the morning; I had a good excuse though. My lovely other half, Miss Noot was travelling to Khon Kaen with 3 other university students and their Japanese Teacher, Ajarn Fumiko. They had been chosen to visit the Khon Kaen University and a seminar. Khon Kaen University is huge and dwarfs Ubon’s university.

So this morning I had to take Noot and two of her friends to the bus station at 6.20am. This didn’t leave time for my morning walk. So I can be excused. It is a 4 and a half hour trip to Khon Kaen. I rang Miss Noot tonight and she was very tired but has enjoyed the trip so far. She took along my old Samsung Digimax 430 that I had actually given her and tried to encourage her to use more often.

So last night I charged the batteries for it and also bought some Panasonic Oxyride that are good for a few hundred shots. When I checked the SD card there were some pictures on there.

Noot’s younger sister Ben, as most readers know she loves to dance and sing. She is in the school dance troop and I have to often take her to the school at ungodly hours. I have taken her to school at 3.30am so she can have her hair and make-up done. It is bloody insane.

Just last week she spent two nights at the school as they were dancing for some festival or show at the school. I was happy as I didn’t have to drag myself out of bed at some stupidly early hour of the morning.

Ben has her own motorbike and she is 17 years old but I forbid her to ride it that early in the morning alone. I will follow her to the school so I know she arrives safely. Also she isn’t aloud to ride by herself after 10pm. I trust her 100% but there are so many idiotic teen Thai guys that are just downright pieces of shit. They are the scumbags I don’t trust. I have seen to many Thai newspapers and also Thai news stories of girls being assaulted and killed to not think otherwise.

On the camera were pictures of Ben in a Thai outfit as you will see below. When she arrives home after dancing, there must be about 100 hair pins that are jammed throughout her hair to pull out. The make-up is plastered so thick, and the girls look so pale. Ben goes through many skin wipes trying to clean her pores even after showering and scrubbing.

As I have said before, Thais will do so much, bend over backwards and move mountains to have everything look perfect. If they used about 10% of this sort of dedication academically, the Thai education system would leap ahead in huge bounds.

Many foreigners cannot fathom the effort put into what we see as medial, but again this isn’t our culture. I go along with anything like such but do not support it. We have a huge night coming up. It is called Assumption Family Night. Every class does a show on a massive stage. There are unbelievable outfits and dancing shows after dancing shows for 5 or more hours.

The last 4 days and also a few days last week students have been spread all over the school working out routines for their shows. Many teachers are more than happy to allow students to practice dancing in their period, simply they couldn’t be bothered to teach, so another words lazy and happy to do nothing. Not I. I am the Mr. No Fun. “Teacher can we practice dancing?” “No, you can’t. You can do that in your own time.”

There are so many days missed in a Thai school year for different holidays and festivals, so many periods where students are forced to practice standing to attention and repeating things like robots. I am there to teach, simple as that. I do that. I teach what is in the curriculum. I want the parents to get value for their money as they are paying a lot to send their kids to our school.

Well, that is me and my morals.

Today I did exercise, I ran the programme again. I then walked for another 30 minutes after and completed 6 laps. Today that meant only 7.8 kilometres. Tomorrow I will make up for it. This means going to bed now as it’s 10.30am and I need some sleep.
