Footsal competition results. Thailand.

As I reported. Master Siriwat Assumption College’s sport’s teacher and also Ubon Ratchathani’s footsal coach passed away suddenly last Friday morning. He was due to start coaching the provincial team one day after his death in the biggest student games to take place in Thailand.

I couldn’t get into the stadium for the first half and tried to peer over peoples heads from outside.

At halftime the Assistant coach was trying to give the boys some ideas as they had been a little off target in the first half.

The score was 2-4 in favour of the opposition province Nakon Pratom who were playing a little better.

The opposition had an early chance from a free kick and they scored, 5-2.

Not long after Ubon had their chance but the shot was high and wide

The opposition was in control and kicked out to 8-2 lead and Ubon tried to get some quick goals by substituting their reserve goal keeper out of the game and playing another striker. The number 1 keeper had his nose broken in the first game and was desperate to play but the coach didn’t want to risk him. Anyway, playing the extra striker was a big mistake and the score went out to 12-2.

In the end the score was 13-2. The boys had been well and truly beaten and were very disappointed; they felt they had let their late coach down, but in reality they had been mature beyond their years. They had done their late coach proud by competing and giving 100%.

The opposition team paid respect to the late coach of Ubon, Master Siriwat. They lit incense sticks and said a prayer or words to the late coach.

So, sadly the fairytale ending didn’t happen for the team but there will be plenty of chances in the near future for them to lift a trophy and dedicate it to their coach. He will be remembered by the boys from this team, every time they take the court.

Brunty.
