Final exams and sleepy students in Thaialnd.

The last few days have been long and boring. It is exam time. The students were lined up and listening to the head of the department and the rules for the exams.

The year 7 students were waiting outside the classroom. I am there homeroom teacher so I have the privilege of proctoring their exams for two days. It means starting at 8.20 am and finishing at 4pm with a one hour lunch break.

There are two teachers in the classroom; we have to simply make sure that the students don’t cheat. This is a pretty easy task if you are on the ball and strict with the students.

Last year in my year 11 exams I knew that some students had cheated as they had answered questions that they just couldn’t have done. I confronted 5 girls and after threatening to take them to our Brother (Director) and they do the exam in front of him; they confessed to cheating. They told me that they simply asked some of their friends for answers and help.

I was very angry and told our EBP head that I wanted to speak to the teacher in charge of proctoring their exams and find out what the hell he was doing. He was obviously incensed as after he had been called and told what I had said he came over and started protesting his innocence. I started to think that maybe the students had been very sneaky and I was feeling a little sorry of accusing the guy of being a fool and not doing his job.

It was a few hours later that an American teacher informed me he went to the year 11 class to see if his exam was going smoothly and he found students up and walking around the class, some were helping others and the teacher was sitting at a desk marking test papers. I can tell you I seen red and said some very choice words.

Anyway, year 7 on the second day of exams, there were some students starting to get tired and were falling asleep at their desks, after they had finished their exam at hand.

Some were out like a light and were a little shocked at the flash of light from the flash.

You shouldn’t leave your camera sitting unattended as students will take your picture.

At the end of the long two days I wanted a class picture and this was an effort. The boys initially wanted to run and then just fool around. Bloody teenagers.

Cameras and Thai girls are a recipe for pain. I started an evil thread that ended with me being involved in god knows how many pictures.

Here is Miss Aimz, Miss Toey and Miss Ta and me!

These are some of my year 6 girls from English class.

These are my year 5 students from English class.

I have some paperwork to finish off and clean out my desk as we are moving to another building for next school year. We are going to a 4 storey building and this means a new staffroom which is going to be well away from a smelly drain that would reek at times when you opened the windows for fresh air.

I am actually looking forward to the move as they say a change is as good as a holiday. I can’t wait for this 8 and a bit week break. I need it!

Brunty.
