Thailand. Illegal street racers apply for bail.

There have been a few updates on the teenagers detained for watching the illegal street drag racers. Yesterday they reported that some of the teenagers hadn’t slept for a few days and that the girls missed their parents. Very sad, isn’t it.

Today it was reported that parents will be able to apply for bail tomorrow for their little babies. The youths underwent a five-day program at a remand home to "improve their behaviour", But there are also a lot of conditions that come along with the bail conditions.

Before the bail applications were submitted, parents would be asked to join some activities with their children so the youths would know how their families had suffered from their lawbreaking action, so they would not do it again.

The parents would also be asked if they had any knowledge of their children's street racing after 10pm and will be asked to ground them after 10pm. Now, Thai parents aren’t very good at issuing discipline so this could be hard.

If the parents could not do so, they must pay the bail deposit within two years, and if they could not control their children from repeating the offence, the DJPO would revoke their guardianship over the children, and assign Child Protection officials to do the job instead. Wow, your kid keeps stuffing up and they will be taken away and placed in juvenile care, they are serious.

The remand homes will make a suggestion attached to the case report for the public prosecutor and the court that street racing was punishable by up to three years in detention, so the youths should be given a chance and not be prosecuted by the court.

Three years in jail, that is serious stuff. I would love to see that back home and the hoons locked up for 3 months. It would be priceless to see their faces at the shock of actually being sent to jail instead of just a slap on the wrist.

However, after getting bail, and if they then repeated the offence and were sent back to the remand homes, they would forfeit any chance of further bail.

Out of the 100 youths, seven were repeat offenders of other crimes four drug related cases, one theft, one property intrusion and one gambling case. Officials will determine further if this group would get bail or not.

So again, good on the Thai police and the court system and hope they keep on locking up the fools and extend it up north here to Isaan country.

Brunty.
