Thailand. Exciting changes at a Thai school.

Over the holidays our school had some developments done. It was only done not so long ago when HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn or her full name and title is "Somdet Phra Theppharat Ratchasuda Chao Fa Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Ratthasima Khunakon Piyachat Sayam Borommaratchakumari" came to our school to open a new building.

They put these large tiled flower pots to impress her but it seems after a short time they had grown old and needed a make over.

So over the holidays workers started on the new project.

They mix all the concrete by hand in large tubs. I am a little miffed at times as to why they don’t have concrete mixers as I have seen some people using them.

There are always an abundance of workers on any job site and this was the case as well. I suppose at the small rate of pay per day it can be afforded.

So what were the workers doing? That was the question everyone was asking here in Ubon Ratchathani. The suspense was bigger than who shot JR Ewing in Dallas or Mr. Burns in the Simpson’s.

It wasn’t long before some red letters started to appear and it was obviously going to be the name of the school.

So the finished product was no more flower pots and boring old concrete. Now we had our school name in shiny red letters and the date the school opened. The plain concrete is now a lovely pebblecrete.

I do admit that this does look a lot better than the old décor but all the money that has been wasted in a short time, is a little silly. The only other problem is that not many people can see this lovely design, well not from the road or ground level. If you are flying in a plane over Assumption I am sure that it would look very impressive.

So that was one exciting change that happened over the holidays and I know that there are some planes for more during the long 2 month holiday from March to May.

You see life is exciting here in sleepy old Isaan country, Thailand.

Hey MJ. Yeah it's about 9 weeks from late February or early March until the middle of May.

The other break is for 4 weeks and then we also get 9 days off at Christmas time.

I would get with public holidays and other things that happen around the 4 months off that is paid leave.

It is one of the reasons I live in Thailand. Back home that just doesn't happen.

It is 8 months work and the other relaxing and enjoying life.
