Thailand. A Bad deed turned to Good.

Today I want to report some really good news from Isaan country here in Thailand. It all came from a really and lowest of low acts anyone can think of and that is stealing.

Okay, that isn’t so bad, I know; but the scumbag assholes stole from blind people.

My English mate Keith and his wife Sarah go to the blind people for massages every week nearly. He told me about the despicable act a few weeks back.

The masseuses didn’t have any customers so they were laying down resting and someone entered into the business (which is under a house) and stole their mobile phones. I am hoping the criminal or criminals have now been hit by a car or even better had a piece of metal stuck between their ears.

So Keith and an Australian guy Barry who had a couple of spare phones donated them to the blind people so they can again have a little bit of freedom and be contacted by clients to book massages.

The blind people are fully qualified masseuses and have certificates to prove the fact. Even though they are totally blind they can still live a fairly normal life and are very busy most the time with a constant stream of customers. They charge 120 baht for one and a half to 2 hour massage.

The 2 ladies were busy with clients today and were hard at work when we arrived. I have never had a massage from here and truthfully haven’t been for a massage for 2 years I would say. Keith said they do a great job and are really strong and the massage is as good as or better than others he has had before.

Keith and Sarah showed the main blind man, obviously by feel all the buttons on the phones and then we had to make some adjustments such as making the tone for each time you push in a number when you make a call, each number gives off a slightly different sound and they can obviously here this.

He picked up the on and off buttons quickly and then the dial and stop buttons. He was given a run down on connecting the charger and he was virtually off and running. It took about 20 minutes with a few technical problems, mainly because all of us were fools about changing some of the setting in the phone.

I was really proud of my good mate and other acquaintance at the really good deed they had done. I sadly couldn’t contribute as I don’t have any old back-up phones or I would have given them a phone as well (really I would have, I’m a nice guy).

So after a really horrible act it was replaced by some really nice people and it also made some other people really happy. I am really proud of the blind people being independent and working and it must have taken some guts to do this initially. I see beggars down the market better off than these blind masseuses and this is why I don’t give them a red cent. Two good arms, legs and eyes, they could be working if they really wanted to I am sure of that.

Hi Brunty!

What a great little story. I'm in agreement with you that to steal from these hard-working blind masseurs/masseuses was a dispicable act: shame on whoever did it!

The generosity of Keith and his friend was really heart-warming to read about - good on them!

Maybe you could post or email me the whereabouts of the massage parlour, as I do like a good massage now and then. (I don't frequent the other massage parlours that I'm aware of in Ubon as I think they're the kind of establishments that offer "extras", and I can't be doing with all that !)

Yeah, this sounds really great. I would love to go check it out too. It's not that long until we're leaving for Thailand, and I can't wait!

I will get exact place but it is near Assumption school but is in the jumble of little Soi's running everywhere.

I will try and find a decent map to upload for directions.

Hey Franky. Yes, this is even low for the really lowest of scum walking this earth. I hope they are hit by a truck.

Look forward to December mate.

Hey Line. Good to hear from you and I am sure you are excited about your trip. I might run into you somewhere in Ubon. Hope the job hunting in England is going well.
