Now as you know if you have read this blog I love to put as many pictures as I can into my blogs. I believe that they can add so much to a blog and this is especially true if you aren’t a strong writer and the pictures can hide this fact.
Anyway, last night while I was sitting up late and also watching the football (soccer) and then golf on the TV I did a little research and I read a lot of good things about Flickr and also people mentioned the quality compared to blogger hosting the pictures.
So today at school while I was being paid and I had 4 hours to kill so I went about joining Flickr. This was extremely easy and also linking my blogger blog to my new Flickr account was so simple. Even a mentally inept IT fool such as me could do this easily.
So I joined and then went about looking at what Flickr had to offer. I searched around for a good hour just looking at this and that and checking things out but I couldn’t upload anything to my account as all of my pictures are at home on my external hard drive.
So I was keen to get home and start playing around a bit like a kid with a new toy. I couldn’t go to the park as it has been raining virtually all day, sometimes very hard but most the time just an irritating drizzle. I went for a walk as I wanted a few new photos to upload that were colourful and also needed to be sharp and what better than green grass or trees and flowers.
Now I wasn’t sure at the difference in quality in the pictures and I truly didn’t think that it would be that great. So I sat down on my computer and then went about uploading my pictures to my computer.
I then logged into my Flickr account and uploaded the pictures I selected into my virgin account. Then I quickly did a run through of posting the pictures from Flickr to my post in blogger just to make sure that I knew what was going on or to make myself think I knew what was going on.
Anyway I uploaded the pictures and then went through the easy to follow steps of just copying and pasting the HTML code into my blog post where I wanted to put the pictures around my text. And I have to say it was so easy, easy than I thought it was going to be.
Now was there difference in quality of the pictures between blogger and Flickr hosting. Was there a difference? Yes, there was. Was it significant? Yes, it was.
If you look at the pictures I have posted you can see it remarkable easy. The Flickr quality is such a better product and the sharpness of the photos is top quality. I will now be using Flickr all the time. I wish I had listened to my friend Mr MJ a long time ago when he mentioned to me about Flickr.
The first picture in each set are blogger photos and the second are the Flickr photos.

The only downside that I can see at this very short time of looking and playing with the Flickr site is that you can only upload 100mb in a calendar month but then again this is a large amount of pictures really. I uploaded 16 pictures and this has used up 7% of my calendar months account. I will only upload pictures that I want to use for my blogger posts to Flickr and my everyday pictures will stay on my hard drive of my computer. So depending on the size of the pictures you are uploading you shouldn’t use all your free account up within the calendar month.
The only other thing is the dates for when the pictures were taken. In my camera I don’t leave the batteries in it all the time and the date almost always isn’t correct in the details of the picture for when taken. I tried to adjust this to the correct date and because I am in Thailand and well in front of The USA time zone wise when I tried to adjust the date to the correct day and time I kept getting “Date in the future” and wouldn’t accept this date. Maybe there is an easy fix to this and I will check this out more over the next few days.
So most of you who already read my blog probably use Flickr as you are more up to date and hip with the latest IT on offer, but if you aren’t then I seriously stress to you to check Flickr.com out and you will not look back.

Brunty, good move going to flickr.com. i have 2 more recommendations for you.
1. pay the money and get a flickr Pro account. it is _well worth it_ and you will need the additional file space. the Pro account is just what photobloggers like us need.
2. download and install the Flock browser (flock.com). Flock is based on Firefox and is fully flickr/blogger aware. if you look at the end of my blog posts it says "blogged with flock" because i use Flock's built-in blog editor. Flock has the ability to capture web contect and create "web snippets" which makes posting about news or other articles very easy (this is how i posted on your blog). i use the Flock editor and post flickr photos in the medium size, and the combination is the balls. you will love using Flock - trust me on this Brunty. it was made for bloggers.
looking forward to seeing more photos from you as always.
Hey MJ. Yes I have already looked at getting the account as I do have a lot of photos I want to add from my external hard drive.
I will check Flock.com out as well thanks. Anyhting that inproves my blog I am happy to change to or give a go.
So Thanks for pointing me to Flickr.com.
Brunty
