The clashes between police and protesters in Bangkok last Sunday have been the talking point in the news the last few days.
I have blogged about this before and I am not surprised that violence has finally happened I am surprised it didn’t happen a lot earlier. I have watched footage and who is to blame? Well, I believe that the police are at 60% and the protesters are at 40%.
If the police didn’t react the way they had I am sure there wouldn’t be the 200 hundred reported police injuries, which I find very hard to believe anyway and apparently only 30 odd protesters were injured.
Now what has amazed me is seeing in the paper that the Prime Minister of Thailand has pulled a Million Baht 1,000,000 to pay compensation to 46 injured police officers. I have never heard of this sort of thing before. I know of police injured in the line of duty in Australia still fighting for compensation for injuries they received many years ago at the hands of criminals.
What I would like to know is how do they know who was genuinely injured and in Australia depending on the severity of injuries received will determine the amount paid to you. So how the hell could this caretaker, self imposed military government possible have 46 police treated and checked for injuries and work out the amount of compensation paid to each individual.
With the amount of people in Thailand struggling to make it through each day and then you have a government just pulling money from who knows where, or maybe they borrowed it from Taksin and one of his frozen accounts.
It shows me how out of touch this government seems to be with its people and also leaves many questions with how they run and also manage the money of the country.
The sooner the country has a democratically elected government by the people and hopefully an election that won’t be corrupted will be better for all the Thai people.

Jason,
From a retired soldier's perspective it is insane. It is the nature of the job for police and soldiers that you will be in harm's way. What is the job of police if not to protect and serve?
As long as the government takes care of all medical and recovery that should be sufficient. It seems to me that by paying police for getting injured it would motivate to create similar situations with the hope of compensation. And maybe some faked injuries.
It can also cause bad feelings for those who don't recieve compensation.
From what I understand the residents near the new airport in Samut Prakhan are still waiting for compensation. Why would anyone think it is necessary to compensate for injuries sustained, "In the line of duty"?
it's not you.
Hey Darwin there are still farmers waiting to be compensated for the Pak Moon Dam I think it's called debacle that took place many many years ago.
I am not sure but wouldn't the government have insurance to cover the police in the line of duty. I mean that would be part of thier employment you think.
Hi MJ I am glad it's not just me who thinks this is insane.
