Thailand. Are drugs Worth the Risk of the Harsh Penalties in Thailand.

This story comes from Chiangmai or the North of Thailand and was reported in a paper there.
In a village 132 kilometres away from Chiangmai there is a very popular tourist destination that a lot of people don’t know about. It is a small village called “Pai” that acts like a base camp for tourists who want to trek into the mountains to see hill tribes living as they have done so for many years. This is something that I want to do and hopefully will in my 2 month holiday early next year.

Now for some reason many westerners have a fascination with drugs. Even when they are in a country that has very harsh drug laws, they are still willing to risk so much for a toke on a joint, well I think that’s what you call it.

The hill tribes know this so they grow marijuana and poppy and then sell it to the tourists.

How anyone cannot go for the amount of time they are in the country without taking illegal substances, well I say they are pretty pathetic and I have absolutely no sympathy for them when they are caught and thrown in a Thai jail. I am glad the pathetic losers are caught.

Anyway the good old border patrol officers patrolling the area come across 300 kilograms of very mature marijuana plants and were ready to be harvested they said. I am sure this will be only a small dent in the illegal trade but at least it is something.

This is also a problem in Australia as the laws punishing the perpetrators are abysmal and usually end slapping them on the wrist with a small fine when in context to their business and a jail sentence if this happens that is never long enough for them. The other problems are the jails are too nice for criminals and need to be let rundown more so the criminals actually know they are in jail and not a hotel on a holiday.

So if you are in Thailand and you want to smoke some weed, take some Ya Ba or even get into the more serious drugs, I hope you know the consequences your actions can make for you as your life could become one of the horrible stories that you read about on the internet or even a movie but that has already been made, so the second more than likely will not happen.

Come to Thailand and enjoy all on offer and remember there is always someone watching the farang and you cannot trust your sellers as I have read many stories about the seller walking around the corner and the police are waiting and then a nod is gave and you are done. If lucky you get bribed, but if not you are up shit creek in a barb wire canoe without a paddle or a bailing bucket.

Be smart to all.
