This is a sad story that was meant to be happy day for a couple getting married here in Thailand.
In Thailand the groom’s party arrives at the bride’s front door and she walks down the stairs to greet the groom party for the traditional greeting.
A very well known guest who had come from Bangkok and was not only a famous Bangkok lawyer, but also an expert marksman who had won gold medals in club shooting competitions in the capital.
He reached and pulled an 11-millimeter pistol from his waist holster, he wanted to fire a shot into the air as a way of heralding the arrival of the groom’s party. While he was raising the weapon he released the safety switch and then unexpectedly the gun discharged.
Unfortunately the bullet entered up through his chin and lodged somewhere in his head and he obviously fell to the ground with a loud thump. Many of the guests were shocked and probably couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed.
The victim was rushed to hospital but later died from his wound. Thankfully the bullet didn’t hit the groom or the bride is a good way of seeing it, I suppose.
It was not reported if the couple continued with the wedding but I am sure that if it was my wedding then for certain it would be called off and rescheduled for another day. I wouldn’t want my anniversary on a day where someone had accidentally killed himself as well.
Story from the Phuket Gazette. Brunty.
