Thailand. Free Concert. Thai Superstars and Coyote Girls.

Last night I attended the Honda opening extravaganza. It was meant to start at 6pm and finish at 8pm but because of a downpour early in the day it put things back a little. We arrived at 6:45pm and there were only around 50 people there. So we stood right up close to the stage about 15 metres away.

Eventually at around 7:15pm a Honda lady came on an introduced some schools that were going to be dancing for us. The first show was Chinese orientated as were many others and one man made a speech in Chinese so I believe the owners must be Chinese or of this background.

One school dressed in traditional Laos’s outfits and danced a traditional dance that was nice but went on way too long. These went on for a good 30 minutes and then we were treated to the first “Superstars”.

Our hosts were Woonsen (Thai Noodles) and Por (I think is Thai/Frang). Woonsen is a famous VJ apparently and Por has his hands in many pies acting and a DJ and more I was told. When they walked out on stage the crowd that had built up a lot surged forward and the girls started screaming hysterically. This is when I thought what the hell I was doing there at the front of the crowd.

They warmed the crowd up and had them screaming and yelling things out and in laughter. They then introduced a Chinese dragon display. A massive fireworks show of consisting of 3 crackers light the night sky up for 10 seconds. I was a long way away and took a picture from the big screen TV. I had seen some guys warming up earlier in the night jumping on poles that were about 10 feet off the ground on the car park. Now they were in the Dragon outfit and after dancing around for a while they started to climb these poles. Anyway one of the guys came a cropper. He missed his footing on a pole and fell 10 feet to the car park and landed flat on his back. The crowd let out a huge sigh and oh and then waited for a few minutes and then they got he guy up to a big round of applause.

(The crowd. I would have said 2,500-3,000)

The hosts then came back on stage and introduced “Superstar Jenny” a Thai actress singer from Channel 3 on Thai TV. This again made the crowd hysterical. She was very popular and dressed well um in silver. She sings some very popular songs and had they girls singing in full voice. By this time I was stuck amongst many people but there were a lot of young university girls so it wasn’t so bad having aching feet and being hot. Jenny sang about 7 songs.

Next was “Superstar Benz” another actress and singer from Channel 3. She too caused hysterics and was very nice, She joked along with the crowd after her first song asking if she was fat and if she had a “Big Ass” name of another very popular Thai band. She also sang 6 or 7 songs and a few times forgot some dance moves which she joked about but was a lot of fun.

After she finished the 2 hosts and singers stood on stage and then said goodbye and this was really when the night was just starting as next up were the “Coyote Girls”. This caused a big crowd surge especially of young Thai men and this is when many of the younger Thai girls started to exit from the front of the stage.

I have video footage of Benz, Jenny and the Coyote Girls that I still need to edit. Also the coyote girl’s pictures will be getting posted tomorrow as it is now midnight here and I so need a little sleep before tomorrow as I have to go and earn an honest living for the day.

Life is hard here in The Far North East of Thailand.
