Thailand. Foreigner Dies Riding 1,300cc Motorbike.

All I can say people heading to Pattaya or any other tourist destination, Do not hire these death machines. They really should not be on Thai roads at all. Thai drivers are terrible and very unpredictable and you put a farang on big super sports motorbike and it means trouble.

You see these bikes lined up on beach road for rental and farangs think it's cool to hire one and then they can show off and have some fun. These bikes are unbelievably powerful and you have to know what you are doing. Most the time you wont even need to show them a licence be it for a car or motorbike. Thai car drivers and motorbike riders don't use lights or blinkers. They don't look when they are pulling out of somewhere and they don't take notice of red lights.
I have 2 girly 125cc motorbikes that gets me around everywhere I need to go and quickly and safely. It's a lot easier to maneuver these little bikes in and out of traffic. trust me when I say 60 kms an hour in Thailand is dangerous on a bike because of the unexpected.

So this poor foreign guy has been driving down the road, it doesn't say if he was speeding but sounds like it and a pick up truck failed to see him and pulled out from another road. The farang couldn't stop and his big production bike and the force of the crash made the motorbike get stuck in the front door of the truck and his body was under the truck.

He died at the scene and the truck driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Now the other thing for all foreigners, this guy didn't have any ID on him so they have no idea who he is. You have to carry a photo copy at least of your passport and of your travel insurance. It has been known that people have been turned away from private hospitals if they have no paperwork. For your own safety carry these things at all times just in case.

Now the police have to scour all the motorbike rental places and try and find out who he is so they can contact his embassy and then make the dreadful call home telling his family of his death. Remember to use a little common sense in Thailand please and you may return home in one piece.
