Asian motorcycles a health hazard. Thailand news

No joke!! When I Read this it makes me realise how far these academics are out of the real world. The WHO (World Health Organisation) Has expressed alarm at the high rates of young people dying in motorcycle crashes all across Asia not just Thailand. (This is very common Knowledge here).

They state the obvious of the main contributing factors for these deaths "Factors such as speed, no helmets, risk-taking behaviour and drink-driving/riding contribute to the rising trend". (no new news there).

Now this is where I know that these people live in there own little fantasy world somewhere. They say " simple measures" that could be taken to help make roads safer for young people"
I am sorry but simple. In thinking, Yes. But actually doing and enforcing is another thing.

The simple measures are "setting and enforcing appropriate speed (I believe Thai people don't think there is such a thing as a speed limit) and blood alcohol limits (Now this is an absolute joke here in Thailand), as well as introducing and enforcing mandatory seat belt(It's compulsory here to wear but 99 % don't), helmet (They are not "COOL"and mess your hair up) and child restraint laws."

I'm sorry but it's not simple here as when you think that Thai police get a percentage for each fine they record and process I am sure that are going to be in no hurry to stamp these out.

The "WHO" go on to say "A motorcycle is also a family vehicle (you bet here), with children routinely transported as passengers (4 or 5 on a bike). Helmets are also rarely used, partly because of their cost (this is CRAP, you can get really crappy helmets that are made out of flimsy plastic for under 100 baht $3.30 AUS, They might protect a little) and (you can buy very good helmets for 200 - 300 baht and they are good solid helmets) SO EXPENSIVE NOT and partly because of a lack of helmets for children"( you can buy kids helmets everywhere here).

This article just makes me angry at these people who sit in their boardrooms and come up with these all so easy "solutions". I hope they travel out into the real world very soon.

That's my vent anyway....
